We're right in the foothills — most of this area is under an hour.
Farming at the edge of the park means sharing ground with everything that lives in it. Bear, coyote, bobcat, and free-roaming dogs all come through, and a guardian that sleeps with the stock is the only thing that's out there at three in the morning. Our dogs are raised in these foothills and work this terrain.

Sheep & Goats
The classic job. A bonded pair will hold a perimeter around a grazing flock day and night without being told to.

Ours grow up around chickens, ducks, and quail from the day their eyes open — hawks, foxes, and coons are the whole point.
Cattle & Larger Stock
Calving season draws predators. A guardian that lives with the herd is there at 3 a.m. when you aren't.

Big, visible, and territorial in the right way. Most trouble turns around at the fence line before anything happens.
Buying From the Smokies
Puppies are $500, males and females alike. Pickup is at the farm in Newport, and most buyers make the drive so they can meet the parents and see how the pups were raised. We're right in the foothills — most of this area is under an hour.
